Willpower and Self-Control

“The greatest battle of life is fought out within the silent chambers of the soul. A victory on the inside of a man’s heart is worth a hundred conquests on the battlefields of life. To be master of yourself is the best guarantee that you will be master of the situation. Know thyself. The crown of character is self-control.” (Unknown)

Ahh, so many times the battle within for self-control can be frustrating and somewhat daunting.  In reprogramming the subconscious mind to become one with what your conscious goals are, it can become easier to gain mastery over one’s will.

“Our thoughts, emotions, and brain communication directly with our immune, nervous, and endocrine systems and with the organs of our bodies. Moreover, although these bodily systems are conventionally studied and viewed as separate, they are, in fact, aspects of the same system! If the uterus, the ovaries, the white blood cells, and the heart all make the same chemicals as the brain makes when it thinks, where in the body is the mind? The answer is, The mind is located throughout the body.” — Christiane Northrup, M.D. (Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom)

Bruce R. McConkie states,

“The book of life is the record of the acts
of men . . . written in their own bodies.
It is the record engraven on the very
bones, sinews, and flesh of the mortal body.
That is every thought, word, and deed has an effect
on the human body; all these leave their marks.”

To help reshape your thinking, affirmations are a powerful tool. Tap the center of your chest while you say the following affirmations aloud.

Affirmations to overcome willpower issues:

I’m filled with vigor, strength, potency, might, vitality, stamina, robustness, soundness, sturdiness, vital force, health, energy, and virility on all layers and levels.

I am active, effective, potent, lively, elevated, and resolute.

I take careful, daily concern to build good character within myself.

I follow the steps of simplicity, moderation, and virtue.

Individual willpower, personal determination and motivation, effective planning and goal setting are necessary but ultimately insufficient for us to triumphantly complete this mortal journey.

I am fully equal to the task of learning through the lessons as I gain self-mastery.

“My strength is as the strength of ten, / Because my heart is pure.” (Tennyson)

I am persistent.

My greatest dreams are to have a housekeeper; unlimited reading time; to travel wherever and whenever I want; to live in England, Italy and Hawaii; to go to Oxford University in the UK; to have all 11 children go on missions and to college; and to die peacefully in my sleep as an old, healthy woman. ♥
